Gerry joined GMA in 1987. Now Managing Partner, his practice has focused on a comprehensive range of business and real estate issues, with additional emphasis on condominiums, intellectual property and information technology. Gerry is recognized as the firm’s most effective negotiator and trouble-shooter. His practical no-nonsense approach appeals to GMA’s many clients. Gerry runs the Real Estate practice at Gardiner Miller Arnold LLP and is one of the most respected conveyancing lawyers in Ontario. Gerry is the most entrepreneurial of the GMA lawyers always searching for better and more efficient ways of accomplishing business tasks for both the firm and our clients. He was one of the original founders of the Canadian Lawyers Network (CLN) which was a national network of Canadian law firms practising real estate. More recently, Gerry has started work on CondoLawyers.ca, which is a network of Greater Toronto condominium specialists providing legal services to condominium corporations and consumers.
Gerry’s specialty in Condominium law is widely respected. In fact, he is especially proud of the outstanding reputation that GMA has within the Condominium community. It was Gerry who coined the phrase “We are the Condolawyers™” because he believes GMA lawyers are the ultimate Condolawyers™. Gerry’s condominium legal experience was complimented by his tenure as the first President of Canada’s largest high-rise luxury condominium building. For eight years, he was actively involved in all aspects of managing, administering and running the Condominium Corporation. He had hands-on experience with respect to the turnover meeting, proxy battles, developer interference, first-year budget deficiencies, construction deficiencies, ONHWP claims, substantial alterations of the common elements, budget increases and special assessments, energy retrofits and much more. All of his experiences have made him an invaluable resource for condominium boards seeking experienced practical solutions.
Gerry also practises Business Law at GMA. He represents many small, medium and large businesses. GMA provides full business services to its clients including incorporations, partnerships, limited partnerships, financing, and reorganizations to drafting all types of business contracts.
One of Gerry´s interest is teaching and, by extension, public speaking. He has taught Real Property Law at Ryerson University, George Brown College, Centennial College and Seneca College. He has taught law to mortgage brokers. He is a sought-after speaker by all of the condominium professional associations, including the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario and the Canadian Condominium Institute.
Gerry is also active in the Chinese community representing many new Canadians in their efforts to start and build businesses and purchase homes and condominiums. He has participated in both of the Prime Minister’s delegations to China in 1994 and 2001.
Gerry was educated at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo and The University of Windsor Law School.
